Data used to target ads
π₯Data collectionπ¬ Google's core business model relies on collecting and using your personal data to target advertising. You get some controls, but data-driven ads are the default way the free services are funded.
βWe make money selling ad space to businesses, and we use your data to show ads that are useful to you, according to your settings. We also use your personal information to make our products more helpful to youβ
Google can change or discontinue services
πCan change terms anytimeπ¬ Google can change, reduce, or shut down services at any time. They promise advance email notice and a right to leave if the change is more than minor, but the underlying decision is theirs.
βwe make modifications such as adding or removing features and functionalities, increasing or decreasing usage limits, and offering new digital content or services or discontinuing old ones.β
Automatic updates installed without consent
πOtherπ¬ Google can push security updates automatically without asking. For non-critical updates you get a choice. This is standard practice.

Restrictions on using AI output and scraping
π€AI training on your dataπ¬ You are prohibited from using Google's AI-generated content to train your own AI models, and from scraping content in violation of robots.txt. This restricts you rather than Google.
βusing AI-generated content from our services to develop machine learning models or related AI technologyβ
Broad worldwide license to your content
πClaims your contentπ¬ You keep ownership, but you grant Google a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, modify, publish, and sublicense your content. It's limited to operating/improving services and promotion, but it is a broad grant.
βThrough this license, you provide Google with permission to use your intellectual property rights in your content (such as copyright and trademark) and any immaterial rights in your content (such as image rights).β
Google can sublicense your content to contractors and other users
πClaims your contentπ¬ Google can pass on the rights to your content to its contractors and to other users. This is how sharing works but means third parties may handle your content.

Automated analysis of your content
π₯Data collectionπ¬ Google's automated systems scan your content (including while it's being sent, received, and stored) to fight spam, recognize patterns, and personalize services and ads.
βThis includes using automated systems and algorithms to analyze your content: This analysis occurs as your content (as well as other content in our systems) is sent, received, and when it is stored.β
License and copies may survive content removal
πClaims your contentπ¬ If you delete content, copies others already have or that appear in other search engines may persist. Deletion isn't always complete.
βIf you already shared your content with others before removing it... then that photo may continue to appear in your friend's Google Account even after you remove it from your Google Account.β
Liability capped at β¬500 or 125% of fees
π‘οΈLimits their liabilityπ¬ Google caps what it will pay you if something goes wrong at β¬500 or 125% of what you paid in the last year, whichever is greater. Since most consumer services are free, that often means a β¬500 ceiling. Liability for fraud, death/injury, gross negligence, and willful misconduct is not limited.
βGoogle's total liability arising out of or relating to these terms is limited to the greater of (1) β¬500 or (2) 125% of the fees that you paid to use the relevant services in the 12 months before the breach.β

πJurisdictionπ¬ For EEA/Swiss residents, your own national law applies and you can sue in your local courts. This is consumer-friendly, unlike many US-based terms.
βthese terms and your relationship with Google under these terms... are governed by the laws of your country of residence, and you can file legal disputes in your local courts.β
Terms can be updated with 30 days' notice
πCan change terms anytimeπ¬ Google can change the terms, but must give you 30 days' notice and a chance to accept or leave (except when law forces immediate changes). This is a fairly balanced change process.
βIf we update these terms or service-specific additional terms, we'll provide you with at least 30 days' advance notice (by email or other appropriate means) and the opportunity to review and accept the changes, except if we are required by law to apply the changes immediatelyβ
Note: This is the France country version. Users can export data via Google Takeout, delete their account, and manage ad personalization in Ads Settings. Data protection rights are governed by the separate Privacy Policy, not these terms. EEA consumers also have a 14-day withdrawal right.
